With a Grateful Heart I Give Thanks

What can I say about this Thanksgiving day.

Like most folks, this day has been preceded by a day of baking and preparing. And then to rise early on Thursday to complete the big feast and also participate in the Thanksgiving Celebration at the Rexburg Tabernacle.

But this week I've been more preoccupied on what my oldest daughter was doing. She left the Missionary Training Center in Provo, UT and arrived in Ohio to spend the next 18 months serving the Lord as a Missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I am grateful for her Mission President and his wife for having photos taken of when the missionaries arrive to their care and then posting them to the Ohio Cincinnati Mission Facebook page. It helped me to know she arrived safely and to see the others whom she had associated with at the MTC.

Mother's Day Surprise Out My Window

A few weeks back I purchased a bird feeder specifically for thistle seed. I really wanted to attract the prettier birds to my yard. The redheaded house finches have been eating at the regular bird feeder for several weeks and finally found the thistle feeder last week.

But this morning I had at my feeders the beautiful yellow canaries. A pair has come to my yard to feed. It was such a wonderful Mother's Day surprise.

And yesterday we noticed that a pair of blue & white swallows have taken up residence in the home-made bird house that my husband built out of a rotten old log. He cleaned out the inside, bored a hole for the door, added a perch below it, and then finished it off with an old piece of plywood for the roof.

I have always loved to watch birds and I'm really glad that my trees outside of my kitchen window finally got big enough to hold my feeders.

Happy Mother's Day

A Fine Spring Day For The Birds

Male House Finch enjoying an afternoon snack.
A thunder storm rolled through really quickly this afternoon. The rain pelted against my kitchen window for a time and I was thinking how glad I was for the water on my lawn. But, it didn't last long and so on Monday I will still have to drag all the hoses out and water my lawn with the sprinklers.

He has seen me through the window and is checking me out.
After the storm had passed the sun shone bright again. Out at the bird feeder the sparrows and house finches were getting a late afternoon snack.

This little Male House Finch is so pretty and I enjoy watching him while he eats or flutters up into the branches of the tree. He is very observant so today he caught me watching him and taking his picture. While he perched on the branches checking me out, I bet he was wondering what I was up to and why I was interrupting his snack.

Okay little bird. I will go back to what I was doing so you can enjoy your fine spring day.

Jumping on the Blog Band Wagon

It begins.

I have often thought about starting a blog but didn’t really know where to begin or even what to write about. But today I felt inspired to jump in feet first. So here I am.

In choosing the name for my Blog I let the Holy Spirit guide. I wanted a name that would fit my personality and allow me to write about all the aspects of my life, including everyday life with the family, what interests me, about my faith, about my business, about my past. You name it. Whatever inspires me at the moment to write about.

So as I begin, please forgive the continual "improvements" as I move along each day, week, and month.

Come join me on my journey as I experience Life Down a Country Road.

My Header Photo - Giving Credit Where Credit is Due

Wanted to give credit for my header photo. It is one that I have used for years on iGoogle. After I decided to start a blog and selected my blog name I began a search for a good "Down a Country Road" photo. I took a few photos myself but right now, with snow still on the ground down, "my country road" photo opportunity was limited. I wanted my theme colors to be a little on the rustic side with green and blue and a little rusty (I mean rust) and gold thrown in.

So, thank you Brian Lary for sharing your photo. It is a peaceful road in Wisconsin and gives me good positive thoughts when I see it.
